Aboriginal Women & Children’s Crisis Service are an outreach and support service for First Nation women and children experiencing domestic or family violence, based on Cadigal country of the Eora People, in Newtown NSW.
In 2020, through my work with Wendy Brooks & Partner’s (WB&P), I was introduced to AWCCS, who had enlisted WB&P’s strategic fundraising services. I produced strategic document designs for AWCCS and through learning about the important work they were doing, I knew I wanted to support their organisation further. I reached out to their CEO and offered to assist AWCCS with a brand identity and website redesign free of charge, which they enthusiastically accepted.
After some discussion, we agreed it would be appropriate for me to enlist a First Nation artist to create a series of iconographic illustrations that would be used to form their brand identity.
I ended up engaging Krystal Hurst, a Worimi and Biripi woman and artist operating under Gillawarra Arts. Since there was no budget for this project, I planned to fundraise to pay Krystal for her time, but she readily offered up a skills trade and enlisted me to produce a social media marketing strategy for her in return for her work instead. Krystral produced a beautiful series of assets for AWCCS that reference community, journeys and the connection between mother and child.
Working with Krystal’s artwork, I designed a brand new website as well as their printable brochures promoting their outreach service.
